Version History

All 1.x updates are free for licence holders. The app checks for new versions automatically (or run Check for updates from the footer), and your existing licence key carries over — download the new build, open it, done. The log below covers the significant releases; incremental fixes ship alongside them without fanfare.

Fab Tabs

V1.42 — September 2026

Fab Tabs on your phone. The phone layout now has the Playback section — Play, Loop, speed, Real Harp / Piano and the blend — and the Metronome. The phone’s microphone is used and the level sets itself from your first couple of seconds of playing.
The click beat as a flash. A phone’s speaker sits next to its microphone, so a sounded click ends up in the recording. While recording, the beat can now be a flash instead — a bar across the top of the screen and the Click button lighting up, green on the downbeat — with the sounded click kept for playback.
The click stays on your grid. On playback the click now lands more accurately on the beat.
Click sync. A slider in the Metronome section nudges the playback click earlier or later, and is remembered. Saved players and Lick-Share pages carry the setting.
Playback waits for the take. Play pressed straight after Stop sometimes produced no sound. The Playback button now reads “preparing” from Stop until the take is ready, and lights up when it is.
Saved Audio/Tabs players. The click now plays in a saved file with your real recording, with a volume control, and the tab-timing slider is labelled Click sync.
Lick-Share. The shared page has the same controls as a saved file — speed, click on/off with volume — shows scale degrees under the tabs.
Clearer help when a phone browser can’t record. If the page is opened inside another app’s built-in browser (the Google app, Facebook, Instagram), which can’t use the microphone, Fab Tabs names the app and says how to open the page in Safari or Chrome.

V1.40 — September 2026

Capture is greatly improved — especially on fast playing. Quick runs, triplets, grace notes and passing bends that used to slip past now land in the tab. This is the biggest step in capture accuracy since V1.16.
Fab Tabs sets your input level for you. Pick up a harp and play — the level is set from your first few notes, on whatever microphone you are using. No more wondering why nothing is appearing.
Click a tab to play from there. One click starts playback at that note. Click it again to stop. Click a different one while it is playing and it jumps and carries on.
Playback lines up with your recording. Each tab now lights up with its note rather than a fraction ahead of it — in Fab Tabs and in a saved player.
Fast passages keep their timing when you save. A quick run saved to a player now plays back at the speed you played it.
Sync slider in the saved player. Nudge the highlighted tab earlier or later against the audio, to taste.

V1.30 — September 2026

Paddy Richter tuning. The Tuning list gains Paddy Richter — a standard harp with the 3-blow raised a whole tone. Tabs, keyboard, note map and detection all follow the layout.
Natural Minor, as labeled. The Natural Minor entry is now named for the way the harps are stamped, and sits with the other special tunings.
Retuned harps keep their own calibration. A Paddy Richter, Country or Parrott harp is calibrated as its own instrument, per key, without touching your standard harp’s calibration — and starts out as accurate as that harp before you calibrate anything.
Your calibrations stay yours. The My Calibrations list shows only the keys you have calibrated, and the system calibrations that ship with Fab Tabs update with each release as intended.
Saving Options tidied. Tabs, Audio/Tabs, Score Files and Lick-Share sit in one even grid.

V1.29 — August 2026

Score files. Any tab sequence exports as MusicXML, MXL and MIDI — one labelled zip that opens in MuseScore, Sibelius, Dorico or Finale, or drops straight into a DAW. Harp tabs travel with the notes, sitting under the music wherever it lands. No sheet music is drawn here; the files go to the program that draws it.
Tempo and timing on export. Score files carry a chosen tempo, and either the rhythm as played or the notes laid out evenly on the beat. As played is the default.
Saving Options panel. Tabs, audio, score files and Lick-Share now sit in a single panel that opens and folds away, remembered between sessions.
Press-and-hold tempo arrows. The metronome and Harp-Beats tempo boxes gained arrows stepping in tens and settling on round numbers.

V1.28 — August 2026

Deep bends read correctly. The deepest bend on a hole — the 2 draw double bend and its cousins — is now recognised.
Factory calibration corrected. Several built-in reference pitches were re-measured and repaired, most noticeably 2 blow on the D and E♭ harps.
Calibration checks itself. A stray reading taken during calibration no longer affects the result.

V1.27 — August 2026

No more clipped first notes. Saved audio no longer cuts the start of the first note after a pause — every note is captured whole.
Click to jump while playing. Click any tab during playback and it jumps there and keeps playing — click another and it moves again, without stopping. Clicking while stopped still just places the cursor.
Clearer help. The help panel is now labelled Before you start, and the Note Tracking guidance matches the two settings actually in the app.

V1.26 — August 2026

Faster, steadier note capture. Note Tracking offers Balanced and Speed modes — quicker commits on fast passages, steadier holds on sustained notes.
Revised capture. Note capture is quicker and steadier across the board: fast passages land more reliably, aggressive bends read more consistently no matter how hard you dive them, and a held bend stays put on screen instead of wavering.
Transport bar. Start/Pause/Clear and the full playback controls now live in a bar at the top of the window, always in reach no matter where you’ve scrolled. Undo is ⌘Z / Ctrl+Z.
Upgraded factory calibration. The built-in calibrations for all 12 keys were re-measured and substantially deepened — hard, aggressive attacks now tab out more accurately straight out of the box, minimal user calibration required.
Input gain range doubled. Mic gain now reaches 10× (previously 5×), with per-device persistence fixed — the level you set is the level you get back, per microphone, across sessions.
Easier note editing. Fix any note right where it sits — right-click a tab (or use the Fix a note button) to correct, replace, or delete it, with playback to check yourself against.
Interface revisions. Sidebar sections collapse by default; calibration tools consolidated behind a single section with an on-demand note map; independent sidebar scrolling corrected for all window sizes.

V1.25 — July 2026

Lick-Share. Uploads the current lick and returns a share URL — tabs render colour-coded and playable in any browser, no install on the receiving end.
Chord-shift views. Displays and plays the captured lick as it sits over the IV and V chords — one control.
Source audio playback. Saved Audio/Tabs players now embed the actual recorded harmonica (MP3) rather than the synthesised voice, metronome click included when active at capture.
Single mic authorisation. The downloaded app requests microphone access once per session.

V1.23 — June 2026

Alternate tunings. Natural Minor (Lee Oskar), Country (Major 7), and Parrott (Flat 7 Draw) added as first-class tunings — note tables, keyboard and tab legend all follow the tuning you choose.
Bend-Aid. A live reed-meter tuner with cents display and per-bend reference tones; functions as a general chromatic tuner.
Tuning reference. Detection and tuner reference adjustable A440–446 to match sharp-tuned instruments.

Tab-Grabber

V1.6.4 — September 2026

Detection Mode. Two ways for Tab-Grabber to read a recording — Harmonica Focused and All-Wind Instruments. Either one can be the better reading on a harmonica take.
Horns/Wind settings improved. On some browsers the Horns/Wind setting was reading only part of a long selection. It now reads correctly — more notes captured, and more uniform tabs whichever browser you use.
Low-tuned harps. Low G through Low F# join the harp-key menu, and a low-tuned recording is recognised as one.
Held notes written whole. A long note with vibrato or a swell is one note in the tab line and in the MIDI tone, not a run of repeats.
The tone matches the tab. The reference tone always sounds the tab you see — after an octave change too.
Capture — fewer ↔ more notes. The setting makes a real difference at every step.
Bar Mode. Pickup notes before bar 1 are shown, and bars can be set to 3/4.
Reuse a saved isolation. Both halves of an isolation now save to disk automatically as a zip file, and that zip loads straight back in — no server call, no credit. Isolations saved as two separate files still load as before.
Export Your Tabs. Every save is in one menu, which appears once there are tabs to save.
Tab sheet fixes. Bar marks in the saved sheet, and text that opens cleanly in Word.
Tidier page. Five numbered steps across the top, a grouped sidebar, a tab legend, and a waveform that folds away once the tabs are written. One instruction per control, and Tab format and Long notes update the tabs instantly.

V1.6.3 — August 2026

Octave placement now answers to the recording. Sax and baritone lines that used to jump an octave mid-phrase now stay put.
Tuning is set for you. A recording that sits off standard pitch is matched automatically, with a single line saying what changed — no confirmation to click through on every file, and no second tuning switch to keep in step in the sidebar.
A trumpet tab tone. A recorded trumpet joins the piano as a tab playback voice — easier to pick out against a busy track than a piano note. Marimba and flute have been retired.
Octaves start unlinked. The two octave controls now begin independent, so nudging one register no longer drags the other with it. Link them whenever you want them to move together.

V1.6.2 — August 2026

Octave placement fixed on short phrases. Brief phrases were being moved an octave when they shouldn’t be, which wrote octave jumps into horn takes. They now hold their place like any other phrase.
Choose your instrument, up front. A clear banner asks which instrument you’re tabbing before the first grab, so a sax never gets tabbed as a harmonica by accident.
Served entirely from harmonicamute.com. Tab-Grabber now loads everything it needs from our own site — faster and more dependable, unaffected by outages elsewhere, and nothing about your recording goes to a third party.

V1.6.1 — August 2026

Instrument Voice. One control now sets everything for the instrument you’re tabbing — Harmonica or Horns/Wind. The Horns/Wind voice gives cleaner tabs on sax, trumpet and clarinet, with fewer stray notes.
Octave placement rebuilt. Wind-instrument lines now land in the harp’s most-played range automatically — the low end where the nuanced bends live — instead of needing a manual octave shift on every horn take.
Harmonica behaviour stays on the harmonica. Octave jumps that could appear on clarinet and similar takes are cured.
Quieter notes recovered. Softer notes on harmonica takes are picked up more reliably.
Simpler Capture control. Three settings — Standard, More, Most — with the default tuned to what previously took the maximum setting to achieve.
Jump anywhere, in whatever you’re listening to. Click any tab or any bar during playback and it carries on from there — staying with the tab tone if that’s what’s playing, the recording if that’s what’s playing, or the two layered. It no longer switches you back to the recording.
Immersive View plays tabs on its own. A Play tabs only button now sits beside Play, so the big view is a complete workspace — no trip back to the main window to change how you’re listening.
Playback improvements. The tab tone lands with the beat; Tone sync works in both directions and applies live; a bar counter sits beside the clock in both views.
Some controls removed. Reverb cleanup, the Silence gate and the Calibration source are gone from the settings — their best settings are now built in.
A cleaner workspace. The tab legend follows your chosen tab format; the drop zone clears once a track is loaded; one-click Regrab; the transport buttons share one look across both views; the settings panel trimmed to the controls that earn their place.

V1.6 — August 2026

Show Bars Mode & Immersive View. Lay your tabs into musical bars, spaced on the beat — click any bar to play from there, drag across bars to loop a passage, double-click to loop a single bar. Immersive View opens the same thing full-width in its own window: big tabs, a sweeping playhead, and a whole-song strip you can click to jump anywhere. Space bar pauses and resumes everywhere.
Auto tempo, rebuilt. Dense, driving tracks that used to come back at the wrong tempo now land right. And if you’d rather tap it in, hit Play and tap your Shift key in time.
Know where you are. Time counters now run everywhere — on the waveform, under the tabs, and in Immersive View — showing your position in the song during any playback.
Skip around the recording. Click anywhere on the waveform to set a play point — press Play and it starts right there, or click mid-playback to jump on the spot. Dragging still selects a section, and the selection handles are bigger and easier to grab.
Capture, simplified. The Capture slider is now four useful settings — Least, Standard, More, Most — with a new deepest-digging top level for the faintest notes. Starts on More.
Fewer wrong-instrument grabs. The first grab on each file confirms your Instrument choice in one line, with a one-click switch — no more discovering halfway through that you tabbed a sax as a harmonica.
Quieter housekeeping. Tuning corrections can now be set to apply silently (“Always keep it”), a clear “updating the tabs” badge appears while setting changes are re-processed, and long notes are written with hold marks (5 ~ ~) so you can see how long to hold them.

V1.5.4 — August 2026

Sharper detection. Tabs are more accurate on isolated solos, amplified harp, and other wind instruments — and there’s no Track type to pick any more.
Better octaves. Notes that used to land an octave off — especially amplified or dirty tones — now sit on the right hole far more often.
Cleaner held notes. A sustained note is no longer split in two, and quiet ghost notes are dropped.
Isolate button glows while it’s separating, so it’s clear it’s working.
Handier settings. Overblows / overdraws and Reverb cleanup now sit right under the Harp key instead of inside Fine-tune.

V1.5.2 — August 2026

Octave placement, substantially improved. Takes that previously came out with mixed or shifted octaves now land correctly.
Quiet notes recovered automatically. Softer notes are picked up after each grab. Respects the Overblows setting.
Reverb cleanup. The reverb control is now a simple Off/On at full strength — On removes ringing tails that were being written as extra notes, and can recover real notes they were masking.
A smarter reminder bar. One bar drops in only when something needs you — saving a freshly isolated track for reuse, or regrabbing after a settings change — and leaves when the job is done.
Cleaner tab display. One confident tab line, without the clutter. Right-click any note to correct it, as before.

V1.5.1 — August 2026

Octave accuracy. Passages that previously landed a whole run an octave away — and shifted again on the smallest change to the recording pitch or capture settings — now hold their position.
Reference tone follows the tabs. Corrected notes play back at the pitch shown, whether you corrected them by hand or Tab-Grabber did.
Safer note handling. Flagged notes are no longer removed by a single click. All note editing — correction and deletion — goes through right-click.
Playback. Starting either tab player stops source-audio playback, so the two can no longer run together.

V1.5 — July 2026 · initial release

Audio-to-tabs. Turns recorded audio — songs, lesson clips, voice memos — into harmonica tabs. Works on harmonica parts and on other lead instruments (sax, trumpet) you want mapped onto the harp.
Instrument isolation. Lifts the lead instrument away from the mix before tabbing — substantially cleaner results on full-band recordings. Credit-based; trial isolations included.
Note editing. Per-note correction (pitch, position, deletion) with reference playback against the source audio.
Format control. Four tab notation formats, named per-instrument settings presets, floating playback dock.
Fab Tabs interchange. Exports .fabtab files that open directly in Fab Tabs for playback, transposing, and sharing.
